15 Of The Best Things To Do In Cyprus

Share:

Cyprus is a beautiful island that is a popular holiday destination for brits as well as many other tourists from around the globe… But, we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to live on this stunning island for 3 years. So we explored as much of it as we could.

What’s more, Cyprus is a small island, you can reach one end to the other in around 4 hours. So, in 3 years we managed to see a lot but unfortunately still not everything as we had to work too! (Boo!)

Here is our list of the 15 Best Things to do in Cyprus…

1. Stroll down Paphos harbour…

When staying in the south, you’ve got the beautiful Paphos Harbour. So, take a stroll down the Harbour in Kato Paphos. Then maybe can grab a coffee, ice-cream or a bite to eat. Whilst enjoying the glorious sunshine and taking in the picturesque views of the Mediterranean Sea. Additionally, Paphos Harbour houses the historic Paphos castle that can be visited through the day for a small fee.

2. Buggy your away around Paphos and Coral Bay…

Not too far from Paphos is Coral Bay, where you can take a buggy safari tour and feel the warm breeze in your hair… The package we used let us start in Coral Bay, stopping at the Sea Caves shipwreck, St George’s and then enjoy the stunning Lara Bay (more below) and also included a lunch break before a stop at Adonis Baths/waterfalls (more on this further down). Therefore, we were able to stop at Lara Bay for around 30-45 minutes where we had fun jumping over the waves (Told you we would tell you more).

Lara Bay also known as Turtle Bay is stunning, peaceful and has massive waves and the reason this beach is so quiet is because it is a turtle nesting and protection beach, hence the A.K.A. So, if you’re lucky you might get to see some baby turtles too! (Bonus!)

Tip: Wear sunglasses and a scarf or buff as it can be VERY dusty!

3. Dip into the ice-cold Adonis Baths…

Again, more as promised… Take a day trip and dip your toes in the water of Adonis Baths or jump off a tree like I did. Although if you’re brave enough there is a jump from the top of the waterfall you can do, I left Ad to do that one… however, that’s one way to get the cold out the way. This is a beautiful waterfall to visit but the water is ICE cold – it is the only place in Cyprus where the water stays freezing all year round. Refreshing!

4. Sip cocktails in Limassol…

If cocktails and city life is more your thing… Then Limassol has some great restaurants and cocktail bars for you… so why not indulge yourself in some food at the marina looking out at the expensive yachts (you can dream!!!) then stroll over to the old port and enjoy some cocktails before the night becomes alive where you can then dance the night away…

5. Spend a fun filled day at the waterpark…

Splish, Splash and Slide the day away at a waterpark… depending on where you go to in Cyprus you have a few waterpark options…So, there is Aphrodite Waterpark – Paphos, WaterWorld – Aiya Napa or Fassouri Waterpark – Limassol (this was our local!) Limassol Waterpark is the biggest on the island and also has the biggest wave pool in Europe. Fassouri Waterpark was awarded Europe’s Leading Waterpark Attraction for the World Travel Awards 2007, so it’s worth a visit if you’re holidaying in Cyprus.

6. Climb and Zip your way through the Plâtres trees…

Fancy a great day trip into the mountains? Then head to Sparti Park in the beautiful mountains of Pano Platres. What’s more, it’s is home to the first rope adventure forest park in Cyprus. That consists of Rope courses, a 17 metre free fall and 24 Zip-lines. (We do love a Zip-line!). You can also enjoy refreshments and a bite to eat at the parks Café. So, if you love a bit of adrenalin on your adventures, this is worth a trip into the mountains.

7. Take a boat to one of the blue lagoons…

Love being out at sea? Then take a boat trip or even hire one out – depart from the harbour Of Latchi and cruise over to the Akamas blue lagoon. While, you can go from Aiya napa harbour for the Cape Greco Blue Lagoon, depending which side of the island you are. Once you arrive you can anchor up for some swimming or jump off the boat into the clear blue seas for some snorkeling… This makes a relaxing day perfect for topping up your tan on the open waters of the Mediterranean, whilst also enjoying some sight-seeing along the way.

8. Cool down in the crystal-clear waters of Fig Tree Bay, Protaras…

Ready for a relaxing beach day? Then Fig tree bay it is, a stunning sandy beach located in the Protaras area of Cyprus – We are not on our own in recommending this beach. Because this beach was declared third best beach in Europe by trip advisor back in 2011. As you can see, the water at the beach is crystal clear, thus making it the perfect place to cool off between tanning on a hot summer’s day!

9. Cycle down, up and around the quiet roads…

Due to the island’s roads never being too busy with cars, it makes the perfect place for road cycling … So, we had our own bikes and loved to ride out into the open roads, taking in the views… However, if you don’t own a bike and this is something you would enjoy you can hire one and give it a go.

10. Sledge (or Ski) through the Snow in Troodos…

Believe it or not, if you visit Cyprus any time between November and March; you might be lucky enough to visit Troodos Mountains in the Snow! Yes, it snows in Cyprus… you can enjoy the beach at sea level and then within one hours drive you can be at a ski resort! We haven’t skied yet, but we definitely enjoyed the sledging! However, if skiing is your thing why not mix your beach holiday and ski holiday into one! While in Troodos Mountains sampling the yummy, flavored nuts is also a must. Literally you can sample them all, but then do choose your favorite to buy to support the locals. 🙂

11. Clay pigeon Shooting…

Why not try something new? However, Clay pigeon shooting is not easy… it’s a challenge but a fun one at that! (Even if you don’t hit many targets! Ha ha). That’s right, we weren’t the best at hitting the targets. But, we gave this sport a go whilst out in Cyprus and found it to be a great afternoon out.

For first timers, the instructors will take you through safety briefs and training before you get to use the gun (it’s a real loaded gun!!) following your training you’ll get to try and hit the targets… (it’s really hard) but, it’s fun… So, let us know if you try it and don’t find it as hard as we are making out… maybe it’s just us who can’t hit the targets, ha-ha!

12. Explore the historic Ruins (Kourium)…

Fancy some Cypriot history? Then, Kourion Archaeological Site (Greek: Κούριον) maybe for you, it was an important ancient city-state on the southwestern coast of Cyprus, located nearly 100 meters high along the coast of Episkopi Bay.

The site is worth a visit, as you can still see lots of the precious ruins that were destroyed in a severe earthquake in 365 AD. Note, the site is quite big, so involves a bit of walking… however, you will see lovely views over Kourium beach from here.

13. Paragliding over the Mediterranean…

If you can handle heights… Imagine gliding through the sea air, in peace, floating over the calm waters, looking out to the beautiful landscapes. I am personally not a fan of heights, however as I always say, “be scared, and do it anyway’. What’s more, you’ll be safely strapped into a harness and slowly lifted up to a height of about 200 meters, after enjoying the magical views, you’ll be guided back into the boat (you don’t even get wet!).

Three of us all went up together when we did this, I had some injuries from a triathlon and couldn’t go in the water for weeks! So, this was perfect because I still got to get involved with the watersports without actually touching the water.

14. Greek/Cypriot nights…

If you enjoy diving into the culture of the places you visit – then a Greek or ‘Cypriot’ night is worth adding to your bucket list, whilst in Cyprus. The night consists of all things traditional Greek Cypriot, from the food to music and the dancing. What’s more, the night usually involves lots of interaction from the audience, making this a fun evening for the whole family. Therefore, we enjoyed several Greek Nights whilst in Cyprus with friends and family.

15. Dance the night away at the Amphitheatre…

Last but not least… watch a show at The Amphitheatre just off Pissouri Square, it was built as the villages ‘millennium project’. However, The Amphitheatre is now home to many fantastic shows and acts. Also, The shows start in the day light allowing audience to enjoy the sea-view backdrop and continue on through the sunset into the night -lit up by floodlights.

What’s more, the Audience can bring their own cushions to sit and enjoy the show from the stoned steps, as well as snacks (mmm popcorn) and drinks for a real relaxed but lively atmosphere. So of course, when we saw the Jersey boys were on, we got our tickets and enjoyed dancing the night away on The Amphitheatre’s dance floor! (yes, I made Adam dance ha ha)

Thank you for reading! If you enjoyed it or you have some other cool places you would have added, please let us know in the comments, we’d love to hear from you! 🙂
