Lu’s Story Time: Our Life on Lockdown

Life on Lockdown… So, where do I start with this one – this is a topic that everyone in the world has their own story to tell. But here is mine…

We were planning to travel the world

We were getting ready to go on our travels around the world – getting our vaccinations, working hard to save for any extra bits we needed, getting our backpacks ready (well the backpacks were one of the first things we bought!). Researching, roughly planning – mainly just our first destination, as we had planned to travel freely! And then along comes Coronavirus! We had literally just got our last vaccination when Coronavirus started becoming national news. Anyway, from first becoming national news to covid-19 being all over the UK, sending us into Lockdown, this is when our plans really changed!

Isolation

But where? Well, we didn’t have many options to be honest, we didn’t want to put anyone out. Going to most family’s houses wasn’t an option, due to someone being vulnerable. So, we decided to ask my mum if we could stay in her trailer caravan for 7 days while we isolate… this decision was made around 12am on the way back from the festival, as the virus had suddenly just become increasingly more worrying as the hours went by… 7 days later the country went into full lockdown. Meaning, we had to stay where we were for the foreseeable… which for us was, in the Caravan.

Life in Lockdown – The Caravan (April 2020)

That brings us to ‘Life in Lockdown’ for us, or ‘Life in a caravan’ we love it, its our own little space and it is certainly getting us ready for travelling whenever the time comes that it will be safe to do so again.

Lockdown has given us lots of extra time to work on this website and our blog posts – which we otherwise would have had to do while on the move. We are staying in our hometown around family which is allowing us extra quality time before we do jet off. The ‘once daily’ exercise rule allows us to get some fresh air on our lovely canal and park area right by our caravan. We get to enjoy walks, runs and cycles – mixing it up daily. We also have a big garden outside where we set up our own circuits.

But, it’s not easy not knowing what is happening with our travels yet and when this will all be over, but we are grateful for what we do have and that we are safe and well. We know others have it a lot worse than us and some have it a lot better. However, it is a very sad and worrying time for the whole world. But, staying positive is what gets us through!

Life in Lockdown (March 2021)

Fast forward, one year! One whole year?! Well, I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe how fast that year has flown by… And who would have thought we would still be in Lockdown? Certainly not me, as you can probably tell by the previous bit of the story. Life in Lockdown for us has changed even more now.

Life in Lockdown – The House (March 2021)

As I mentioned earlier, we had rented our house out for 12 months this time last year… Which means the contract for the tenants ran out, giving them the opportunity to leave. So, they bought their own house and moved out… no question about it, we need new tenants. So, we advertised our house immediately. We had not lost hope that we’d be travelling soon, so moving back into the house was not an option. Afterall, we had sold everything back in 2019 ready to travel in 2020!

Then viewing after viewing after viewing, we eventually found new tenants! However, fast forward 4 days. To the day they were moving in…and they backed out! So, when I got the Email, I immediately thought… I am not going through all that viewing process again! I thought through our options and quickly decided, we should move back in…

Life in Lockdown – The Caravan to House Move (April 2021)

When Adam got back to our little caravan home, I told him the news… On me telling him “I think we should move back in”, his reaction was “What? One minute, I need to sit down”. This is quite funny to think about now, but at the time, it felt like a massive step backwards.

Our dream was to travel the world, that much that we sold everything, rented our house, couch hopped and then lived in a caravan waiting to go! So, moving back into our house, meant we would have to start over again, buying house stuff and essentially, settling back down. It felt like we’d no longer have the freedom to set off as soon as the lockdowns lifted and allowed us to go.

But, in April, it was official we now lived in a house again… a house that felt massive and way to roomy for just the two of us and our backpacks! Haha.

Life in Lockdown – Step 3 of “the road map out”…

Again, fast forward 8 weeks later… Although this isn’t what we wanted and wasn’t in our plans and definitely wasn’t where we expected to be in 2021. Everyone is in the same boat and this time two years ago, no one expected to be where they are now.

Moving back into the house has been the right decision for us, although we are ‘on the roadmap out of lockdown’, there are still restrictions in place. Travel is still off the cards for a lot of countries and things are changing all the time.

Our plan for the next 12months, looking at how things are right now, is to get a lot of our other goals ticked off. As well as, continuing with Travel and Adventure more locally. This has given us, and many other people who enjoy travel, a chance to see what beauty is right on our doorstep.

I hope you enjoyed my story… if you did let me know in the comments? Maybe share some of your experience?
